As a Clinician Scientist, my group's research covers the spectrum from basic laboratory science to translational sciences and clinical trials. We investigate the pathophysiological impact of different environmental and maternal medical conditions on pregnancy outcomes, fetal growth and development, and longer-term offspring health. The work we do provides complementary mechanistic plausibility alongside clinical outcomes, with particular focus on the area of maternal endocrine and metabolic health during the pre-conception phase and in pregnancy. Better understanding of the mechanistic pathways underlying the developmental origins of health and disease, and optimising care of women before and during pregnancy will ultimately improve the health of the next and subsequent generations.
