Dr. Chan’s research interests focus on the immunopathogenesis and pathophysiology of small fiber neuropathy (SFN), with a special emphasis on identifying and validating novel autoantibodies and neuroimmune mechanisms underlying neuropathic pain. She has published foundational proteomics-based work on anti-MX1 antibodies, with findings reported in the Annals of Neurology, and is further expanding this research to validate these results. She is interested in applying these discoveries toward the development of precision diagnostic biomarkers and targeted therapies for SFN. Beyond SFN, Dr. Chan has a research interest in autonomic dysfunction and sleep disorders, exploring their pathophysiological pathways and interactions with chronic pain states. She has published on related topics in Neurology, Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility, Muscle & Nerve, and Exploration of Neuroprotective Therapy, reflecting a commitment to multidisciplinary, translational research in neurology.
