Dr Derek Soon is a Snr Consultant Neurologist working in the National University Health System. Dr Soon obtained his basic medical degree at the University of Cambridge, before obtaining a PhD in neuroscience at University College London and specialist certification in the East Midlands. Dr Soon also holds a Masters in Medical Education and teaches and teaches extensively to a variety of audiences, from practitioners of medicine and nursing to engineers and students of music. Dr Soon has received several awards, including the Chan Heng Leong Best Teacher Award, the NUS Teaching Excellence Award and the UMC Teaching Inspiration Award. Dr Soon’s academic and administrative appointments include undergraduate education director for department of medicine, a post he held from 2012 to 2020, Associate in Centre for Medical Education and director of the neuroscience module, YLLSoM. Professionally, Dr Soon’s foundation and first love remains clinical care. He has been from the moment of his graduation in 1995 to the present day almost 3 decades later, first and foremost a doctor. He administers to inpatients and outpatients in Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, and runs a specialist clinic in National University Hospital.
